Fisheries and Oceans Canada's Arctic Region exemplifies the Government of Canada's commitment to advancing reconciliation and pursuing a renewed relationship with Indigenous peoples that is based on recognition of rights, respect, co-operation and partnership. The department's main activities in the region are:

  • Management of fisheries and Marine Protected Areas/Refuges
  • Compliance monitoring and enforcement for northern fisheries, marine mammals and Marine Protected Areas/Refuges
  • Marine environmental protection and research
  • Management of federally owned small craft harbours

Locations

The department's Arctic regional offices operate from key locations spread across the Canadian North. The Region is inclusive of the Yukon North slope, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Nunavik, Nunatsiavut, and Hudson and James Bay. This boundary is inclusive of Inuit Nunangat.
