Opened on April 29, 2024 and will close to new input on June 29, 2024.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is leading the development of a marine conservation network plan for the Scotian Shelf-Bay of Fundy Bioregion.

Who is the focus of this consultation

The public engagement focuses on gathering feedback from communities in the Scotian Shelf-Bay of Fundy Bioregion, which includes the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia and the Bay of Fundy. Stakeholders, partners and ocean users within this bioregion are also invited to provide feedback.

Scope of feedback

The input gathered through this process will be used to shape the marine conservation network plan for the Scotian Shelf-Bay of Fundy Bioregion. This plan will guide the selection of future marine conservation areas.

In particular, we are interested in collecting any specific feedback you may have on the individual conservation areas proposed in the marine conservation network plan. We are also interested in better understanding your relationship with the ocean and how the proposed marine conservation areas in the network plan could impact you.

Since the network is a bioregional planning process, we are not looking for feedback on site-specific legislative tools or management measures. These discussions will come later during the future designation process for each individual network site. DFO's current Areas of Interest (Fundian Channel-Browns Bank and Eastern Shore Islands) are not the focus of this survey. They are undergoing separate site-specific establishment and consultation processes.

What we are heard

Following the public engagement period, a what we heard report will be developed to summarize the feedback collected.
