2020 herring fishery (Maritimes Region) – 4WX Southwest Nova Scotia / Bay of Fundy spawning component (final)

The 4WX herring fisheries occurs in the spawning areas off Southwest Nova Scotia (SWNS), including the Bay of Fundy. 

Dates of season (subject to change)

The 4WX current herring fishery operates from October 15, 2019 – October 14, 2020.

Total allowable catch

The 2019-2020 total allowable catch (TAC) is 35,000 tonnes.

• Mid water trawl: 280 t
• Purse seine: 27,776 t
• Fixed gear: 6,944 t

Management measures

The Atlantic herring fisheries are managed under the Integrated Fisheries Management Plan (IFMP) and the Canadian Atlantic Herring SWNS Rebuilding Plan.
