2017-18 Scotian Shelf Shrimp (Pandalus borealis) – Shrimp Fishing Areas 13, 14, 15, and 16
The Maritimes Region Shrimp fishery occurs in Shrimp Fishing Areas 13-16, located from Cape North, Cape Breton to the Bay of Fundy as defined within the Atlantic Fishery Regulations, 1985 (Schedule XVII).
Dates of season (subject to change)
The Scotian Shelf Shrimp fishery operates year round, from April 1st – March 31st.
Total Allowable Catches
The 2017 TAC for Shrimp Fishing Areas 13-15 is 2,600t. This represents a 20% decrease from the 2016 TAC of 3,250t. The TAC is allocated in accordance with the established fleet shares:
Mobile Fleet: 2,392t (92% of TAC)
Trap Fleet: 208t (8% of TAC)
Shrimp Fishing Area 16 is a competitive fishery with no TAC.
Management Measures
The Scotian Shelf Shrimp fisheries are managed under the Scotian Shelf Shrimp (Pandalus borealis) Integrated Fisheries Management Plan (IFMP).
