About

Understanding Canada's marine and fresh waters means we can better protect the aquatic environment and species that Canadians rely on for their livelihood, safety, and cultural practices.

Year round, our science teams, the Canadian Coast Guard, communities and partners work together to carry out the research needed to monitor, conserve and protect our oceans, lakes and rivers. We collect the data needed to support Canada's international commitments and inform decisions around safe navigation, fisheries management, climate change, sustainability and conservation.

Canadian Coast Guard science fleet

We work with the Canadian Coast Guard and other partners and collaborators to gather data and information about the state of our oceans, freshwater and aquatic resources.
