Equivalent industry practices

Equivalent Industry Practices specify best practices to manage risks to fish and fish habitat from low risk, routine, industry-specific projects. These best practices have been reviewed by DFO and avoidance and mitigation measures have been deemed equivalent (equal) to DFO measures and standards:

How to use an equivalent industry practice

Notify us if you plan to use an equivalent industry practice. If you can follow all the measures in the applicable equivalent industry practice, we do not need to review your project.

Submit notification form (fillable PDF, 50 KB). To use the PDF form, you must:

  1. download it to your computer
  2. use PDF software to open it (such as, Adobe Reader or Foxit PDF)
  3. fill out and save the form
  4. email the completed form to your regional DFO office

If you are unable to access the PDF version, you may print this webpage and fill out the form manually.
