2025-2026 herring fishery (Maritimes Region) - 4WX Southwest Nova Scotia / Bay of Fundy spawning component
The 4WX herring fishery occurs in the herring spawning areas off Southwest Nova Scotia (SWNS), including the Bay of Fundy.
Dates of season (subject to change)
The current herring fishery operates from January 1 to December 31 each year. Closed times for specific gear types in this area can be found in Schedule VII Items 20, 21 and 22 of the Atlantic Fishery Regulations, 1985.
Total allowable catch
The annual total allowable catch (TAC) is 20,000 tonnes for each of the 2025 and 2026 fishing seasons.
- Mid Water Trawl: 160 t
- Purse Seine: 15,872 t
- Fixed Gear: 3,968 t
Management measures
The Atlantic Herring fisheries are managed under the Integrated Fisheries Management Plan (IFMP).
