Dates of season (subject to change)

The management cycle for Unit 2 Redfish begins on April 1, 2025. The fishery will open on July 1, 2025 following the annual spawning closure.

Total Allowable Catch and sharing arrangements

Following negotiations with France under the 1994 Canada-France Procès-verbal (the PV), the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for Unit 2 redfish for 2025-26 has been set at 8,500 tonnes, and remains unchanged from 2024-25. 

Of this, Canada’s tonnage is 8,194 tonnes, as per the shares in the PV.

Rationale for decision

When negotiating the TAC, DFO took into consideration views shared by industry stakeholders, Indigenous communities and organizations, provincial partners and others, alongside socio-economic factors. The TAC is also supported by the most recent scientific information, which found population sizes to be relatively large.

Management measures

Conservation Harvesting Plans for individual fleets will be finalized through the normal consultation process between regional staff and industry representatives.
