Opening of the Greenland Halibut Fixed-Gear Competitive Fishery in NAFO Division 0B
June 25, 2025
Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Arctic Region advises that the Greenland Halibut fixed-gear competitive fishery for NAFO Division 0B will open at 00:01 UTC on June 25, 2025.
The competitive quota for the 2025 season has been reconciled at 884.288 tonnes.
Please be advised that catches from vessels that have been fishing in Division 0B prior to the opening of the 0B competitive fishery will be counted against the competitive fishery Total Allowable Catch (TAC) no sooner than 00:01 UTC on June 27, 2025, 48 hours after the fishery opening date. Any catch pulled prior to the 48 hours will be counted against a Special Allocation or Enterprise Allocation, or covered via a temporary quota transfer from a Special Allocation or Enterprise Allocation. Licence holders are required to ensure that the licence holder, vessel operator, and master of the vessel are aware of this provision.
Fish harvesters are reminded that the licence holder, vessel operator, and master of the vessel are required to contact one of the designated at-sea observer corporations during regular office hours at least 24 hours prior to the vessel’s departure (or the “Just Talk” hail-out system if based in the Maritimes Region), as per your conditions of licence. If an at-sea observer is required for your trip, the licence holder, vessel operator, and master of the vessel must not depart from port until the at-sea observer is on board the vessel.
