Opportunities to Collaborate with the Science Sector of Fisheries and Oceans Canada

Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) has developed a Five-Year Research Agenda, 2007-2012 focused on ten research priorities and associated research priority areas that are considered essential to address federal and departmental priorities and public good needs for the next five years. The ten research priorities are strongly influenced by the New Ecosystem Science Framework in Support of Integrated Management and highlight basic and applied research needed for developing new knowledge and improving the use of existing knowledge.

Purpose of Collaboration:

The Five-Year Research agenda is comprehensive, however it should be noted that DFO and Government priorities evolve over time. DFO Science does not have the capacity and the expertise to address all components of each priority area within a five year period. Choices will have to be made with a view of maximizing flexibility, integrating our work and developing collaborations with research partners. It is well recognised that to be effective and affordable, DFO's aquatic research must be aligned with Canada's collective research effort to benefit from knowledge generated by its partners. Researchers who believe they have something to offer to the areas of priority research are invited to contact one of our regional DFO representatives listed below.

For information about the areas of priority research, you may download the Five-Year Research Agenda: (HTML/PDF) or click to open the following links:
