Adams River: Salute to the Sockeye festival
The Salute to the Sockeye festival celebrates a natural spectacle that occurs every four years along the banks of the Adams River in British Columbia, when the normally quiet waters of the Adams River turn turbulent and crimson red as sockeye salmon pour into their home waters to spawn.

Adams River: Salute to the Sockeye festival
The Salute to the Sockeye is a festival that's held every four years. It celebrates the dominant year return of the Adams River sockeye out in beautiful Tsútswecw Park.
The people that come out to the Salute really do come from all over the world.
DFO has been a partner in this since the 1970s. Our primary role here is delivering educational and interpretive programs.
The other partners in the Salute are the Adams River Salmon Society, who coordinate the logistics. The other main partner is the Little Shuswap Lake Band, this is their backyard. And we're very grateful that they continue to welcome us here.
And we are also partnered with BC Parks.
So Fisheries and Oceans Canada has launched the Pacific Salmon Strategy Initiative, that is putting over $640 million towards rebuilding salmon stocks within British Columbia. And part of the funding will be going to DFO's support of the Salute to the Sockeye this year.
My hope for anybody that's visiting, they get to experience this incredible salmon run. In talking with people from the Fisheries and Oceans that they get questions answered and it fosters a greater interest. For the younger people that attend our school program, maybe they'll become a biologist.
Sparking an interest in salmon and having people understand how important they are to not just this ecosystem, but all ecosystems within BC, that they want to do a better job of being a better steward within their own community.
