Fish Stock Climate Vulnerability Assessment for Species Supporting Capture Fisheries

Description

The impacts of climate change on the aquatic environment pose a growing risk to fish and other marine life. As a result, there is a need to systematically assess the risks to aquatic organisms and fisheries that are managed by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, including commercially valuable finfish and invertebrates.

This project will develop a Fish Stock Climate Vulnerability Assessment “Tool” to provide a standardized method for identifying which commercially valuable species are most vulnerable to climate change, as well as what additional information is available to understand and address the risks. This knowledge will provide fisheries managers with a basis for developing potential management actions to reduce the vulnerability of species and stocks. It will also help to identify where more information is needed to understand, track, and respond to fish stock vulnerability, which will help to prioritize research, monitoring and modeling efforts.
