Trapnets are used to fish gaspereau. They are installed upstream to catch gaspereau during their spring spawning migration. The fish are then scooped out of shallow, constricted areas using a dipnet. Gaspereau is the preferred type of bait for the lobster fishery and is eaten by humans too.
