Indigenous Community - Boat Volunteer Program (Voted)

Main Objective: Provide contribution funding to Indigenous communities to purchase search and rescue (SAR) capable boats and/or related equipment in order to support participation in maritime search and rescue activities within their communities as members of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary (CCGA).

The expected results of this program are:

  • Indigenous communities are equipped for membership in the Auxiliary
  • Indigenous communities are active members of the Auxiliary and are prepared and available to respond to local marine emergency response incidents.
  • Increased Indigenous participation in the federal Search and Rescue (SAR) system.

Main Objective: The Academic Research Contribution Program (ARCP) provides funding to Canadian universities for research aligned with Fisheries and Oceans Canada's science program areas. The long term outcome of ARCP is a broader pool of scientific knowledge that may be used in support of decision-making within Fisheries and Oceans Canada, as well as the development of policies and regulations. Funding for the ARCP is provided from existing Ecosystems and Oceans Science Sector’s program reference levels. As contribution agreements are entered into, they are recorded and reported against relevant programs.

The main objectives are to:

  • enhance the Ecosystems and Oceans Science sector's ability to meet future challenges in areas relevant to Fisheries and Oceans Canada science programs areas; and
  • leverage the Ecosystems and Oceans Science Sector’s capacity to contribute to Canada’s full potential in marine, freshwater, fisheries, and aquaculture research through access to academic resources and knowledge.

Main Objective: To support the fishing industry, Harbour Authorities and Harbour Authority organizations by providing funding assistance in the areas of infrastructure repairs and maintenance, habitat restoration, harbour development studies, organizational capacity development, insurance coverage, and training for Harbour Authorites as well as activities related to the removal or disposal of abandoned and wrecked vessels at harbours. These investments enable the Small Craft Harbours program to provide a network of safe and accessible harbours that contribute to the commercial fishing industry.
