Mr. Gerald Keddy, M.P.
Chair, Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans
House of Commons
Ottawa, Ontario
K1A 0A6

Dear Mr. Keddy:

The Government of Canada (Government) is pleased to respond to the 4th Report of the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans on Ensuring a Sustainable and Humane Seal Harvest that was tabled in the House of Commons on April 30, 2007.

The Government has carefully studied the Report. The Government agrees that the seal harvest is important economically and culturally for a number of East Coast and Northern Communities. We will continue to defend and promote Canada's sealing interests around the world.

The Government of Canada will continue to work with the Standing Committee on this issue.

Sincerely,

Loyola Hearn
