The Government of Canada herewith presents its response to the first Report of the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans (SCOFO) on Northern Cod tabled in the House of Commons on May 17, 2006.

The Government has studied the Report and has given careful consideration to the recommendations made by the Standing Committee.

The Government of Canada welcomes the continuing interest and advice from the Standing Committee on issues relating to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans as the Standing Committee and Members of the House of Commons discharge their Parliamentary responsibility.
