Interim Order REPEALED for the Protection of the North Atlantic Right Whales (Eubalaena glacialis) in and near the Shediac Valley

Transport Canada (TC) – October 14, 2020 – This notice to fish harvesters is issued in accordance with the Transport Canada 2020 traffic management measures to protect North Atlantic right whales (NARW) in Canada. 

Shediac Valley Restricted Area Interim Order - Repealed

On August 1, 2020, an Interim Order for the Protection of the North Atlantic Right Whales (Eubalaena glacialis) in and near the Shediac Valley came into effect. ThisInterim Order created an area of restricted navigation within the already establishedsouthern portion of the 10 knot speed restriction zone, an area where North Atlanticright whales (NARW) are known to aggregate in high densities. Vessels above 13 meters (m) inlength were required to avoid the area, or if among the listed exemptions, travelthrough at a speed not more than 8 knots.

The Interim Order for the Protection of North Atlantic Right Whales (Eubalaena glacialis) in
and near the Shediac Valley, made on August 1, 2020, is repealed, allowing vessels above 13m in length to travel at a speed of no more than 10 knots.

To note: All other speed restriction measures (static zone and dynamic zones) are still in effect until November 15, 2020.
