The Yukon Salmon Sub-Committee (YSSC) is a sub-committee of the Yukon Fish and Wildlife Management board, a public advisory body established under Chapter 16 of the Yukon Umbrella Final Agreement. The YSSC provides formal recommendations to the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and to First Nations on all matters related to salmon and their habitat in Yukon. The YSSC's office and support staff are located in Whitehorse, Yukon.
YSSC members are required to attend (on average) 25 days of meetings per year which are held in Whitehorse and other Yukon communities. YSSC board members are appointed for a 5 year term. Further information about the Yukon Salmon Sub-Committee can be found on their website.
YSSC Board Members receive an honorarium and are reimbursed for travel expenses in accordance with Treasury Board guidelines.
Position overview
The Government of Canada is currently seeking applications from diverse and talented Canadians from across the country who are interested in the following position:

- Time commitment: The time commitment for members is approximately 30 days per year, comprising of 25 meetings. Meetings may be via video/teleconference and/or face-to-face. Face-to-face meetings may take place in Whitehorse, various Yukon communities and Anchorage, AK..

Knowledge, Abilities and Experience
- Experience working with salmon or participating in salmon fisheries;
- Experience in using a computer (including experience in using email);
- Knowledge of the Umbrella Final Agreement or Individual Yukon First Nation Final Agreement(s) as they relate to salmon conservation and management in Yukon;
- Knowledge of Yukon salmon fisheries;
- Knowledge of the salmon lifecycle and general distribution in Yukon:
- Ability to exercise diplomacy and good judgment (e.g., respect for the interests and views of others);
- Ability to compromise in order to seek common solutions to complex issues;
- Ability to actively contribute to the work of the Committee;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Language Requirements
English essential. Proficiency in both official languages would be an asset, but is not required.
The Government of Canada will consider bilingual proficiency as an asset when assessing candidates for this position. You are therefore encouraged to include in your self-identification form your ability to speak and understand a second official language. You are encouraged to also include in your application your ability to speak and understand another language, such as an Indigenous language.
Eligibility factors and conditions of employment

- In accordance with Chapter 2.12.2.12, current employees of the Government of Canada are precluded from applying. Please indicate in your application if you are currently an employee of the Government of Canada.
- Members must be Canadian Citizens.
- Preference will be given to candidates that reside in Yukon. Please indicate your residential address in your application.

You will be subject to the Conflict of Interest Act.
A reliability security clearance may be required.
