Fires are one of the most common incidents on our harbours. There are a few ways in which the harbour authority and the users can help prevent fires.

  • Know what to do
    • Have an up-to-date emergency procedures and correct contact for local fire department and other emergency services
  • Conduct inspections
    • Inspect regularly any electrical boxes and connections. Contact the power company if you see any issues
  • Have fire extinguishers
    • Have fire extinguishers or water pumps readily available. Be mindful of their placement, as the elements may damage them and hinder their functionality
  • Install fire alarms
    • Install and check fire alarms regularly. Replace batteries and follow manufacturing guidelines
  • Install proper signage
    • Indicate where the: Muster point and smoking areas are located on the property
  • Require proof of insurance
    • Ensure that proof of insurance is provided when signing any agreement with a user or third party
