Fires are one of the most common incidents on our harbours. There are a few ways in which the harbour authority and the users can help prevent fires.
- Know what to do
- Have an up-to-date emergency procedures and correct contact for local fire department and other emergency services
- Conduct inspections
- Inspect regularly any electrical boxes and connections. Contact the power company if you see any issues
- Have fire extinguishers
- Have fire extinguishers or water pumps readily available. Be mindful of their placement, as the elements may damage them and hinder their functionality
- Install fire alarms
- Install and check fire alarms regularly. Replace batteries and follow manufacturing guidelines
- Install proper signage
- Indicate where the: Muster point and smoking areas are located on the property
- Require proof of insurance
- Ensure that proof of insurance is provided when signing any agreement with a user or third party
