Size: Adults are 2.4-2.7 metres long and weigh 179-274 kg

Diet: Squid, herring, capelin, and other fish

When you might see it: year-round, although they are more commonly seen in nearshore waters during the summer.

Where you might see it: throughout the region, with many seen in southern Labrador and northern Newfoundland.

Notes: This large, robust dolphin is a fast swimmer and its relatively large dorsal fin, which causes a noticeable spray as it moves through the water, is often the first cue to an observer.  There are records of groups being entrapped in ice.
