Biodiversity measures for use in the Ecosystem Approach to Oceans management

Description

Sea anemones and coralline algae attached to glacial outcrops in the Jordan Basin − outcrops add habitat variety to an otherwise muddy basin causing local increase in biodiversity.

Meeting Canada's commitment under the Convention on Biological Diversity requires that DFO be able to measure and report on the level of biodiversity in marine and freshwater ecosystems. This project will evaluate international information on biodiversity indicators, with a focus on their application to Canadian waters. It will lead to a technical report providing detailed recommendations for consistent and scientifically sound reporting of biodiversity.
