E-Navigation Projects
The Canadian Hydrographic Service is involved in several e-navigation projects, including:
- a website for Tides, Currents and Water Levels, which provides the predicted times and heights of high and low waters, and the hourly water levels for more than 700 stations in Canada. You also can obtain water level observations for some stations on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River.
- the development of the next standard, S-100, to permit the management of gridded bathymetric data in high definition. This means that the resolution of bathymetry data will be magnified from the present S-57 to S-100, adding much more detail and precision. Bathymetry can be used in harbours or dredged areas, where water is not deep.
- an online list of CHS products and services. The website provides information about dealers who sell the publications and products, either through stores or online.
- a project in the St. Lawrence River for testing and demonstrating e-navigation concepts related to tides, currents, water levels and ice formation. The project is examining user needs, how to safely use the data and how to improve its delivery and application, as well as managing risks. It is also fostering collaboration among providers of data, as well as developers and users of the information.
