Scientific Research and Collaboration on Aquatic Invasive Species

Fisheries and Oceans Canada collaborates to research on aquatic invasive species through Canadian and international scientific networks:

  • Funding and Collaboration
Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), in collaboration with key partners and stakeholders, including provincial and territorial governments, universities and research organizations, is working to prevent the introduction, establishment and spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS) in Canadian waters.
  • Canadian Aquatic Invasive Species Network
  • Centre of expertise for Aquatic Risk Assessment (CEARA)
CEARA focuses on the key pathways that transport aquatic invasive species to freshwater and marine ecosystems in Canada; characterizes the factors that influence establishment success of these species; and constructs risk assessment models that will direct future management policies.
