Maritimes Oceans and Ecosystem Science (OES)
A marine embayment encircled by the municipality of Halifax region. In 1991, a time series was established to record the weekly state of the plankton ecosystem in this basin. The strategy of regular and perpetual sampling provides data to assess environmental variability at the weekly, monthly, seasonal, annual and decadal time scales
Pacific Region
Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Environment Canada jointly maintain a network of weather buoys in the coastal and offshore waters of British Columbia. Values of wind speed and direction, air pressure and temperature, and wave height at the buoy locations, reported hourly via the GEOS satellite, are routinely used to improve marine weather forecasting.
St. Lawrence Observatory
A monitoring program for the St. Lawrence ecosystem. This program provides DFO with the information necessary to detect, track, and predict changes in the productivity and state of the marine environment.
