Our Research
The CAHR mission will be achieved through both fundamental (e.g. life history characteristics and habitat preferences of fish) and applied research (e.g. development of appropriate tools necessary for measuring the productive capacity for fish habitat).
Throughout 2008 and early 2009, the CAHR Secretariat communicated with Science and sector partners to determine the priority areas for aquatic habitat research. Resulting program areas are not always mutually exclusive and include:
- Research and scientific advice on vulnerable marine ecosystems (VMEs) in support of the International Governance Strategy (IGS)
- Quantifying and calibrating the cumulative effects of human-induced and natural changes to habitats and the aquatic resources they support
- Assessing the effectiveness of mitigation and compensation measures for human activities on marine, freshwater and estuarine aquatic habitat.
CAHR is always looking for new ways to network and collaborate with interested organizations to facilitate growth of our research program. If you require additional information, please contact us.
CAHR solicits a Call for Proposals on an annual basis. Proposals are reviewed in two sequential stages: 1. screening, and 2. evaluation. They are first screened to determine suitability to CAHR's mandate and its priority areas for research. Research proposals which satisfactorily meet all of the Screening Criteria are then reviewed and scored for technical merit. When a call for proposals is distributed, this information will be reflected on our News and Updates page.
