The award was announced by Dr. Savithri Narayanan, the Director General of Ocean Sciences - Canadian Hydrographic Service, in Ottawa at the 2010 CMOS-CGU Annual Meeting. Brian is noted for his extensive contributions to multidisciplinary ocean research with 35 years of service with Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Dr. Petrie joins a distinguished group of scientists with the addition of the Timothy R Parsons Medal. Congratulations!
The Parsons Medal is awarded by Fisheries and Oceans Canada for excellence in ocean science - more specifically for "distinguished accomplishments in multidisciplinary facets of ocean sciences". Dr. Richard Thomson received his award this past June, at the 2009 Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society (CMOS) Congress in Halifax. He was recognized for his extensive contributions to multidisciplinary ocean research in more than 35 years of service with Fisheries and Oceans. His outstanding contributions, ideas, publications, and leadership are evident through his research, activities and regulatory contributions in Canada.
Dr. Wendy Watson-Wright, Assistant Deputy Minister, Science, will present the 2008 Parsons Medal to Dr. Donald C. Gordon Jr. at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on July 14, 2008. The award was announced at the Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society meeting in Kelowna, British Columbia on May 27, 2008.
Dr. Wendy Watson-Wright, Assistant Deputy Minister, Science, presented the 2007 Parsons Medal to Dr. Carl J. Walters at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Fisheries Centre on June 7, 2007.
