Environmental Context

By protecting the bottom habitat, this closure can also help protect numerous other bottom-dwelling species of fish and invertebrates including commercially important species such as winter flounder, American plaice, witch flounder, yellowtail flounder, Atlantic surf clam and Atlantic razor clam.

This area can act as a refuge area that may contribute to increased species productivity, and contribute to increased abundance within and adjacent to the area.
