The second annual World Oceans Day Family Event will be hosted at the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Centre. There will be interactive and educational fun activities related to oceans and fisheries including a touch tank, craft corner and more! This event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Come and have fun with us!

The second annual WOD art contest has been organized by DFO and the provincial Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture. It is opened to all students from kindergarten to grade 12. Prizes will be awarded to winning students and teachers.

The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and the Halifax Waterfront (at the wharves behind the museum) will be the place to celebrate World Oceans Day! From 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., admission to the museum will be free and there will be interactive and educational exhibits and demonstrations.
Since June 8th, 1992 this event has been the most consistently held main event in Maritimes Region.

The International Ocean Institute (IOI) is organizing a free lecture for the public at 7:00 p.m. in the Scotiabank Auditorium of Dalhousie University's McCain Building, 6135 University Ave.

Dalhousie University is hosting a week-long series of events to celebrate the vital role oceans research plays in our region and in building our economic future. Events will include a gala dinner, public lectures from globally-recognized scientists and the launch of the Halifax Marine Research Institute (HMRI) and its inaugural symposium.

An interpretive, guided walk in a beautiful nature reserve with a remarkable chain of beaver ponds will keep you spellbound. See for yourself the architectural marvels of the building skills of the beaver when you examine their dams and lodges. Join in hands-on activities that will introduce you to a variety of wetland wonders nestled in the Acadian forest. Gentle, wheelchair-accessible trails allow folks of all ages and abilities to enjoy this experience. The tour begins at the Park Administration building located across the street from the main entrance of the park. Rain gear, walking shoes or boots and a sense of adventure are a must!

A presentation about the importance of World Oceans Day has been developed by DFO and the package has been distributed to interested DFO staff across the province for them to use. This presentation includes instructions on how to do a beach clean-up, ocean themed videos and links to relevant websites.

Groups of students (up to 60 per group) will have the opportunity to learn more about the ecology of rivers thanks to DFO and NB Tourism and Parks! This free event will get students to participate in a stewardship initiative by capturing fish and invertebrates, identifying, counting and releasing them to minimize our impact on the environment. Discussions will take place regarding the importance of riverine habitat and the role of rivers in our ecosystems. Don't forget your rubber boots!

Fishermen and Scientists Research Society (FSRS) present their Annual Oceans 11 Outstanding Student Awards to Grade 11 students from across Nova Scotia at the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. Fisheries and Oceans Tour Guides will also give a special tour of the BIO (Bedford Institute of Oceanography) to the awarded students.

Fifteen honoured International Ocean Institute participants (Oceans Governance Practitioners from a wide range of countries) will make the annual visit the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. This is a great opportunity for this year's International Students to hear and discuss with prominent Fisheries and Oceans Staff and Oceans Experts associated with the Bedford Institute of Oceanography on Ocean Policy, Management and Scientific findings.
