Campbell River, British Columbia – Dr. James Lunney, Member of Parliament for
Nanaimo-Alberni, presented a National Recreational Fisheries Award to Dave Clough for his considerable contribution to recreational fishing on Vancouver Island on September 25, 2010. For 30 years Mr. Clough has offered his leadership and technical expertise to the Salmon Enhancement Program, creating educational programs for school children and training streamkeepers from Nanaimo to Tofino, and many other conservation initiatives.
“Canada’s world-renowned recreational fishery has greatly benefitted from the efforts of Dave and hundreds of community volunteers,” said Dr. Lunney, who presented the Award on behalf of the Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans. “Dave’s passion, persistence and expertise are well-recognized and highly respected; our government continues to work with volunteers to ensure that Canadians can continue to enjoy recreational fishing with their family and friends for generations.”
Created in 1989, the National Recreational Fisheries Awards annually recognize Canadians for outstanding efforts to improve or protect the recreational fishery and fish habitat, or for leadership in the recreational community and promoting conservation and sustainable recreational fishing.
Any non-government individual, group, business or association is eligible for an Award, and can be nominated at any time during the year by an individual or organization. Nominations must be supported by documentation and projects undertaken by the nominee must be in Canada.
