Canadian Coast Guard 50th Anniversary


Minister Keith Ashfield is pleased to announce that Canada Post has honoured the 50th anniversary of the Canadian Coast Guard with a PERMANENTTM stamp featuring Canadian Coast Guard Ship Louis S. St-Laurent.


The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Canada was in Dartmouth today to kickoff the Canadian Coast Guard's Golden Jubilee. Joining Minister Ashfield to help cut the birthday cake was (from left) Gary Sidock, assistant commissioner Maritimes region and Jody Thomas, deputy commissioner operations.


Coast Guard's two most northerly-stationed employees, Bobby Christensen and Ron Trudel, fly the 50th Anniversary flag near the shoreline of Iqaluit. They are joined by their colleagues Kevin Drake and Jeff English.

The Honourable Gail Shea, Minister of National Revenue, on behalf of Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, was in Charlottetown today for the launch of the Canadian Coast Guard's Golden Jubilee at the Coast Guard's new Kensington Road facility.

The Coast Guard provides a multitude of essential services for mariners, including search and rescue, environmental response, integrated technical services, icebreaking aids to navigation, marine communications, maritime security and waterways development.
