Re-opening of Closed Bivalve Shellfish Harvesting Areas

OTTAWA, September 11, 2009 -- Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advises the public that the shellfish harvesting closures for bivalve molluscs issued on Sunday August 30 and Monday August 31 due to heavy rainfall in the Maritime Provinces have been lifted for the following areas:

  • Annapolis Basin
  • Aspy Bay in Cape Breton

As these were the last areas that were affected by the August 30th and 31st closures, this is also the last time these special web notices will be updated. 

All other closures within these areas due to Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning, Diarrhetic Shellfish Poisoning, Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning and bacteriological contamination remain in effect.


Re-Opening Of Closed Bivalve Shellfish Harvesting Areas

OTTAWA, September 8, 2009 -- Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advises the public that the shellfish harvesting closures for bivalve molluscs issued on Sunday August 30 and Monday August 31st due to heavy rainfall in the Maritime Provinces have been lifted for the following areas:

  • The waters of the Northumberland Strait, within 1.6 km of the coastline of New Brunswick, from the New Brunswick/Nova Scotia border to the wharf at St-Edouard-de Kent.
  • Cape Breton except for Aspy Bay

All other closures within these areas due to Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning, Diarrhetic Shellfish Poisoning, Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning and bacteriological contamination remain in effect.


Closed Bivalve Shellfish Harvesting Areas

OTTAWA, September 7, 2009 -- Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advises that there are no new re-openings today of bivalve shellfish harvesting areas that were closed on August 30 and August 31.

Testing at Environment Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency is ongoing.

OTTAWA, September 6, 2009 -- Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advises that there are no new re-openings today of bivalve shellfish harvesting areas that were closed on August 30 and August 31.

Testing at Environment Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency is ongoing.

OTTAWA, September 5 -- Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advises the public that the shellfish harvesting closures for bivalve molluscs issued on Sunday August 30 and Monday August 31st due to heavy rainfall in the Maritime Provinces have been lifted for the following areas:

  • Northumberland Nova Scotia
  • Gulf Shore of Cape Breton
  • Southwest New Brunswick (with the exception of areas under closure for paralytic shellfish poisoning and waste water treatment plant failure)
  • Coastal waters of Nova Scotia (Waters of the Gulf of St.Lawrence)

All other closures within these areas due to Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning, Diarrhetic Shellfish Poisoning, Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning and bacteriological contamination remain in effect.

OTTAWA, September 4 -- Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) advises the public that the shellfish harvesting closures for bivalve molluscs issued on Sunday August 30 and Monday August 31st due to heavy rainfall in the Maritime Provinces have been lifted for the following areas:

  • PEI Malpeque
  • PEI North Shore Gulf
  • PEI East
  • PEI West Northumberland
  • NS Southwest with exception of Annapolis Basin
  • NS Eastern Shore

All other closures within these areas due to Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning, Diarrhetic Shellfish Poisoning, Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning and bacteriological contamination remain in effect.
