With the recent budget commitment of $324 million for six new Coast Guard vessels, the government's total investments in the fleet have reached more than $750 million since February 2006.
The Minister of Fisheries and Oceans announced the allocation of some 16 vessels on April 12, 2007. Five of the new vessels are additions to the Coast Guard fleet and 11 will replace existing vessels nearing the end of their service lives.
