The Canadian Coast Guard College's Officer Cadet Training Plan (OCTP) offers two distinct four-year programs of study at the College in Sydney, Nova Scotia: a Navigation program and a Marine Engineering program. Officer Cadets live and study at the College for 45 months and graduate as Ship Officers who are employed on Coast Guard ships across Canada.
Upon successful completion of either program, each graduate is awarded a Bachelor of Technology in Nautical Sciences degree from Cape Breton University (CBU), a diploma from the Canadian Coast Guard College as well as Commercial Certification as a Deck Officer (Navigation) or as a Marine Engineer.
