Convictions under the Fisheries Act, Magdalen Islands

QUÉBEC – Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Quebec Region, has released a list of persons convicted of various offences and fined under the Fisheries Act in the Magdalen Islands in December 2012 and January 2013.

The fines imposed on the fishers total $8,050. One of the fishers was banned from entering lagoons in the Magdalen Islands for one year. The offenders are:

Réal Boudreau	Failure to bleed seals for one minute before skinning.	$750
Donald Bouffard Léon Martinet	Exceeding the daily quota for clam harvesting.	$500 (D. B.) $650 (L. M.)
Claude Bourgeois	Keeping cod bycatch while fishing for lobster.	$150
Denis A. Cyr	Failure to land entire snow crab catch under the supervision of a dockside observer. Traps left in the water unattended for more than 72 hours.	$2,500
Travis Clarke	Fishing for lobster without a licence and in a lagoon.	$1,500 + ban from entering Magdalen Islands lagoons for one year.
Luc Deveau	Failure to complete rock crab fishery logbook.	$500
Sylvain Gaudet Wellie Longuépée	Possession of lobsters under the minimum size.	$750 each
