Herring Fishery Violations – Eastern New Brunswick
Moncton, New Brunswick – Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Gulf Region, announced today five New Brunswick residents have been fined by Judge Donald LeBlanc for violations under the Fisheries Act. The fines total $15,243.
Adrien Gionet of Miscou pleaded guilty to fishing herring without a licence. He received a $3,500 fine for this infraction.
Jason Hébert from Coteau Road pleaded guilty to failing to comply with licence conditions for exceeding the daily limit for herring. He received a $2,574 fine for this infraction.
Walter Nickerson from Petite Lamèque pleaded guilty to failing to comply with licence conditions for exceeding the daily limit for herring. He was fined $3,188 for this infraction.
Marcel Noël from Lamèque pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to comply with licence conditions for exceeding the daily limit for herring. He received a $3,857 fine for both infractions.
Donald Savoie from Pigeon Hill pleaded guilty to failing to comply with licence conditions for exceeding the daily limit for herring. He received a $2,124 fine for this infraction.
Conservation measures exist to protect and rebuild fish stocks so that fish resources are sustainable for generations to come.
