The Fleet of the Canadian Coast Guard

June, 2013

Western Region

The fleet of the Canadian Coast Guard, Canada’s strong and visible maritime presence, patrols the longest coastline and inland waterway, as well as the largest freshwater system, of our planet.

From agile search and rescue lifeboats to powerful patrol vessels designed for off-shore fisheries enforcement and environmental response, the Coast Guard’s vessels are crucial to the programs and services that the Coast Guard provides to Canadians.

The Fleet in the Pacific region supports the operational requirements and climates associated with British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories (up to and including the Mackenzie River) and parts of Manitoba (including Lake Winnipeg).  Vessel work focuses less on ice-breaking (and as a result the Pacific fleet does not have as many icebreakers) and more on search and rescue, maritime security, fisheries patrol and enforcement, aids to navigation maintenance, hydrography, environmental response, as well as aquatic science research.
