The Fleet of the Canadian Coast Guard

June, 2013

Atlantic Region

The fleet of the Canadian Coast Guard, Canada’s strong and visible maritime presence, patrols the longest coastline and inland waterway, as well as the largest freshwater system, of our planet.

From agile search and rescue lifeboats to icebreakers capable of breaking through two-metre-thick ice and six-metre-high ridges, the Coast Guard’s vessels are crucial to the programs and services that the Coast Guard provides to Canadians.

The Fleet in the Atlantic region supports the operational requirements associated with the provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador as well as adjacent waters extending to the 200-mile economic zone, including the southern Gulf of Saint Lawrence. These requirements include icebreaking, search and rescue, fisheries patrol and enforcement and also aids to navigation maintenance, hydrography, environmental response and oceanographic science research.
