Search and Rescue Exercise: Boat-Ex

An annual search and rescue exercise or “Boat-Ex” is happening between November 18-24, 2012 near St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Boat-Ex concentrates on honing the skills required to respond to emergencies at sea and practicing hoisting people from marine vessels via helicopter.

Young New Brunswick Angler Receives International Award

Noé Thibodeau is the grand winner of the North American Salmon Conservation Organization’s (NASCO) North American tag return award. He returned to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans a tag that he found on an Atlantic salmon while fishing the Miramichi River in the spring of 2011. He received his prize (A certificate and a $1,500 money prize) last Wednesday at his school in Rogersville, NB.

Minister Ashfield's Tour in Nova Scotia

The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, is shown a shark display by Dr. Steven Campana, Senior Scientist at Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s Bedford Institute of Oceanography. Minister Ashfield was given a preview of the Institute’s Expo which will be open to the public on September 22 and 23, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Small Craft Harbour Prix d'Excellence

The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, presented the Harbour Authority of Pointe-Basse and Pointe-aux-Loups with the 2011 Fisheries and Oceans Canada Prix d'Excellence Award in recognition of the significant contribution made by harbour authorities to their harbours and the local community.
