The Maurice Lamontagne Institute library was created in 1987 with the mandate to acquire and organize documentary resources for Fisheries and Oceans Canada's specific needs in the Québec Region.

The library boasts one of the most important specialized collections concerning oceans in Québec and in Canada. Its collection is made of 61,000 monographs and 1100 periodicals, of which 294 are active subscriptions.
The Maurice Lamontagne Institute library's collections are specialized in the following fields: fisheries, oceanography and marine science, ecotoxicology, hydrography, and navigation.
All the library's titles are listed in VAGUES / WAVES, Fisheries and Oceans Canada libraries' collective catalogue, which is available through Internet.
The library also offers access to the on-line MLI bibliography, a bibliography of MLI publications indexed alphabetically by author or species.
Members of the MLI community have access to the full range of services offered by the Library. Members of the general public may use the Library onsite, photocopy material, and consult with a librarian in person, by email or telephone for help with their information needs.

MLI Library accepts interlibrary loan requests. MLI Library provides loans and photocopies of its material to libraries worldwide. The MLI Library does not loan material to individuals. The general public must submit ILL requests via their university, public or corporate library.
