On the Job with Canada’s NAFO Inspectors

Canada monitors the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) Regulatory Area (NRA) using a combination of at-sea patrols, aerial surveillance (shown above) and satellite tracking devices known as vessel monitoring systems (VMS) on board the fishing vessels. Specially equipped aircraft are contracted by DFO through Provincial Airlines Limited (PAL) and the Department of National Defence .
