The North Atlantic Fisheries Ministers’ Conference

The 16th North Atlantic Fisheries Ministers Conference was hosted by the Faroe Islands on June 8-9, 2011 in Tórshavn. The theme of the conference was "North Atlantic Fisheries Cooperation and the Global Agenda – Promoting sustainable regional approaches to fisheries management." Discussions during the conference focussed on addressing the negative impacts of fisheries on vulnerable marine ecosystems and as well as the importance of achieving systainable fisheries in the North Atlantic. In support of the conference's theme, Canada made a presentation highlighting its leadership in the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization for meeting the requirements of the United Nations General Assembly Resolutions on the protection of vulnerable marine ecosystems.
