Witch flounder

Witch flounder is a groundfish. NAFO manages stocks in Divisions 3L and 3NO.

Fishery Status 2009: Moratorium (= fishing ban) on 3L and 3NO stocks.

Recent Assessments (2007 and 2008): The NAFO Scientific Council concluded that all NAFO-managed stocks for witch flounder remain at low levels. To allow for stock rebuilding, the Scientific Council recommended there be no directed fishing on witch flounder. Witch flounder bycatch in fisheries targeting other species should be kept at the lowest possible level.
