DFO is divided into six regions where staff carries out the day-to-day delivery of the HMP: Pacific (British Columbia and the Yukon), Central and Arctic (Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Northwest Territories and Nunavut), Quebec, Maritimes (Nova Scotia and southern New Brunswick), Gulf (northern New Brunswick, northern Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island) and Newfoundland and Labrador.

National Headquarters is responsible for the overall coordination, national policy direction as well as strategic advice and liaison with other departmental sectors, federal departments and national representatives of non-governmental organizations.
