Randy Jenkins, Director, Enforcement, Fisheries and Oceans Canada – The monitoring of the Canadian Seal Hunt is a rigorous regime. Fisheries officers are deployed at sea, in the air and at dockside. As well they monitor landing sites, harvest sites, and inspect buying stations and processor facilities. Anyone who violates the Marine Mammal Regulations could face stiff penalties; including jail time and forfeitures of catch and loss of vessel and sealing instruments.
