Testimonial from Nunavut 2

Transcript

The seals are very important for Inuit culture in terms of providing food on the table for the families and for the community, and also it's very important to be used for clothing. And also, secondary industry is the arts and crafts. Inuit has been sealing for thousands of years as part of their survival in the hard environment and that is one of the reasons why the Inuit are still existing today. The importance of the seal is that we celebrate the seal even today because the seal product and the sealing is very important to our culture as Inuit. In the world today, there is a lot of misunderstanding about the seal. Seals are not endangered. We have millions of seals in Nunavut, in Canada and worldwide. There is no conservation concern. We have to make sure the world understands that hunting seals, harvesting seals, does not pose any danger to the seal.
