Video Tutorial: Getting your licence
- The National Online Licensing System will make it possible for you to obtain and renew your fishing licence using a computer that is connected to the Internet.
- This tutorial will take you step-by-step through the process of getting your licence – from paying your licensing fees to printing your licensing documents.
- We’ll show you how to pay your fees using your credit card or your debit card. We’ll also show you how to apply a payment credit that you’ve made at the bank toward one or more of your fees.
- So, let’s get started!
- To begin, you need to log on to the national online licensing system.

- Let’s assume that you have already accessed the system.
- Every time you log on to the national online licensing system, the Notifications screen will automatically appear.
- In the “Notifications to be acknowledged” section, you will see that a new charge was applied to your account on March 21, 2013.

- This is a notification to tell you that there are fees in your account that you need to pay.

- When you click on the notification message, “A new charge has been applied to your account” the details of this message will appear.
- In this case, you owe a fee payment to renew your licence to participate in one of your fisheries. This is indicated by the words “LICENCE RENEWAL” followed by your licence number.

- To pay this fee using a credit card or a debit card, or to make your fee payment at the bank, click the “Pay Fees” link on the left-navigation menu...

- ...and the “Pay Fees” screen will appear.
- Notice how your account information appears at the top of this screen. This includes your name, your account number, and the merchant name of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.

- The “Current Fees” section will show you all of the fees that you presently owe to the Department.

- You may choose to pay one, more than one, or all of these payments at the same time. Simply click in the white box beside the fees you wish to pay.

- If you chose to pay more than one fee, click the “Recalculate” button to reflect the total of all fees selected. Then, click the “Checkout” button.
- If you only want to pay one fee, you only need to click the “Checkout” button.

- The “Pay Fees – Checkout” screen will appear next.
- Notice how your account information remains at the top of the screen.

- The next section shows all of the fees that you have decided to pay and the total amount of these fees.

- Take a moment to ensure that these fees are the ones you want to pay. If you have made a mistake or you want to change your payment, click the “Back” button to return to the “Pay Fees” screen.

- If you are ready to proceed, click the “Print Invoice” button. This step is important to take, even if you are going to pay your fees right away with a credit card or a debit card.

- That’s because you will want to attach this invoice to your transaction receipt AFTER you’ve made a payment.

- Here is what your invoice will look like.

- Notice once again that you name, your account number, and the Department’s merchant name appears at the top.

- The fees you’ve chosen to pay will also appear below, including the Fishing Season for which these payments are being made.
- Click the “print” button to print the invoice or download and save this invoice to your computer or data storage device to print later.
- When this is done, you will return to the “Pay Fees – Checkout” screen.

- At this point, you may make your payment using a credit card or a debit card, by clicking the “Pay Now” button.
- If you prefer to make your payment at the bank either in person or through online or telephone banking, keep watching this video as we will take you through the steps that you need to take AFTER you’ve made your payment at the bank.
- This is important as you will have to return to the national online licensing system to apply the credit on your account to the fees you wanted to pay.
- But first, let’s go through a payment using a credit card and a debit card.

- After clicking the “Pay Now” button, you once again have a chance to review your order. But this time, it will just show the total amount that you want to pay.

- If you want to go to change your order, click the “Return to National Online Licensing System” hyperlink.

- If you’re ready, enter your credit card information in the requested boxes: name on the credit card, credit card number, expiry date, and e-mail address where you would like to receive a confirmation of your payment transaction.
- Payments are accepted using Visa, Mastercard and American Express credit cards.
- Next, click the “Pay with your credit card” button to process your order...

- ...and a receipt of your payment transaction will appear.
- Print a copy of this receipt by clicking the “Print This Page” hyperlink that appears at the top of the receipt.

- To make your payment using a debit card, you must first be registered for online banking.
Video returns to the “Review your Order” section but features the Interac side of the screen.
- If you are registered, enter your e-mail address in the e-mail box and click the “Pay from your bank account” button.

- You will then be connected to the Interac web page, which will prompt you to select your online bank.
- Next, you will login and select the bank account that you want to pay from. Then, you will be prompted to confirm the payment amount.
- And once you do...
- ...a receipt of your payment transaction will appear.
- Print a copy of this receipt by clicking the “Print This Page” hyperlink that appears at the top of the receipt.

- Take a minute to attach this receipt to the invoice that you printed earlier.
- Whenever you make a payment using your credit card or debit card, this will automatically be reflected in your national online licensing system account.
- So, let’s go to the Payment History section of the site to review your payments.

- Notice how the fees that you just paid are listed in the fees table, including the amount of the payment and the date that you made this payment.

- By default, this screen will show you all the payments you’ve made over the past six months.
- But if you click on the red “1 day” box, you will see only the payments you made over the past day. There are other boxes here so you may view payments made over the past five days, 1 month, year to date, or even all of your payments.

- Once you’ve made a payment, the Department will process that information and then release your documents to be printed. Depending on the fees that you paid, this could be your licence, licence conditions, fisher registration or vessel registration documents.
- A notification will appear in your account on the system when these documents are ready to be printed.

- We’re going to take you through that process in a minute – but first, we’re going to show you what to do if you’ve made a fee payment at the bank.

- Once your bank payment has been registered to your account on the national online licensing system, you will receive a notification that a credit has been added to this account.

- To apply this credit against the fee you intended to pay, click the “Credit Allocation” link on the left-navigation menu...

- ...and the Apply Credit screen will appear.
- Similar to the Pay Fees screen, you will notice that your name and national online licensing system account number appears on this screen, but instead of the merchant name, your available credit will be listed.

- So, to pay your fees with this credit, click in the white box beside the fees you wish to pay. You may pay one or more of your fees with this credit.

- Then, click the “Checkout” button.
- ...and the Apply Credit – Confirmation screen will appear.
- Take a moment to ensure that these fees are the ones you want to which you want to apply your credit. If you want to change anything, click the “Back” button to return to the “Apply Credit” screen.

- If you are ready to proceed, click the “Pay Now” button and your credit will automatically be applied against these fees.

- The last part of this video is going to show you how to print your required licensing documents.
- To start, click the “Print Documents” link on the left-navigation menu to get to the “Print Documents” screen.

- You will see that you have some licence documents, a fisher registration document, and a vessel registration document to print.

- Each one of these documents may be printed from the system if your computer is connected to a printer.
- If you want to bring these documents to another computer that has a printer installed – or to a print shop, have a data storage device (such as a USB key) ready to save your documents.

- To print, click on the hyperlink text of the document name...
- ...and a pop-up window will appear to ask you if you want to “Open” or “Save” the requested document, or “Cancel” your request.

- Click the “Open” button if you want to print the document right away.
- The document will open in your portable document format (PDF) browser...

- Click the “Save” button to save a document on a folder in your computer or a data storage device.
