Computer with Internet Access

WHY DO I NEED IT?

You will need access to the Internet to log in to the new licensing system and to send and receive e-mail.

WHERE CAN I GET IT?

If you don't have a computer with Internet access, computers are available at libraries and Internet cafés. Service Canada centers also have computer terminals with Internet access. You can check whether your community or a nearby community has access to the Internet by calling 1-877-535-7307.

ARE THERE ALTERNATIVES?

Yes. You can appoint a representative to handle some of your licensing transactions, such as fee payments.

E-mail address

WHY DO I NEED IT?

The Department will e-mail you when you have received a notification on the licensing system.

WHERE CAN I GET IT?

If you don't have an e-mail account already, you can set one up for free of charge by searching “free e-mail services” through the Internet search engine on your computer or non-government computers at libraries and Internet cafés.

Access to a Printer

WHY DO I NEED IT?

You'll need to print your fishing licence and other licensing documents. If you prefer to pay licensing fees at the bank, you may also want to print a copy of your invoice.

WHERE CAN I GET IT?

Computers at libraries and Internet cafés typically include printing services for a small fee. You may also be able to print your documents from a Service Canada center computer terminal. In addition, documents saved on a data storage device (such as a USB key) may be brought to a print shop.

ARE THERE ALTERNATIVES?

Yes. You can appoint a representative to handle some of your licensing transactions, such as printing documents.

GCKey

WHY DO I NEED IT?

The GCKey user ID and password is a secure way for the Government of Canada to recognize the identity of a person using a government online system.

HOW DO I GET IT?

You will be able to create your GCKey user ID and password once the licensing system is launched. If you need help, watch our “Getting your GCKey” video tutorial. If you have already registered for a GCKey, you will be able to use it to access the licensing system.

ARE THERE ALTERNATIVES?

Yes. You may access the system using a Sign-In Partner user name and password (instead of a GCKey user ID and password). This secure log in option is available through SecureKey Concierge, an alternative authentication service recognized by the Government of Canada. Refer to: securekeyconcierge.com.

Passcode

WHY DO I NEED IT?

The first time you log in to the licensing system, you need to connect your GCKey user ID and password to the information Fisheries and Oceans Canada has about you as a fishing licence holder.

HOW DO I GET IT?

Each licence holder will receive a unique passcode through the mail beginning in April 2013. When you receive it, we encourage you to log in to the new system as the passcode will expire on June 30, 2013. Should you require a passcode after that date, you will need to contact the Department to have a new one mailed to you.
