Revised Requirements of Industry

Beginning in 2013, industry will be required to obtain, supply, distribute, and pay for, logbooks and any gear tags/tabs used in their fishery. They will also be required to pay the full costs of the At-Sea Observer Program and the Pacific Region Groundfish Electronic Monitoring Program..

Those who benefit from Canada's fisheries resources should assist in paying for the management of these resources.

Participants in some fisheries across Canada already assume the costs of logbooks and gear tags. It's only fair that this practice be consistent from fishery to fishery and from region to region.
