Training and Orientation

Fisheries and Oceans Canada wants to ensure that fishermen, fishery service providers, dockside monitoring companies, at-sea observers, and others involved in the fishing industry are prepared to use the new licensing system.

It is equally important that these stakeholders understand all of the changes the Department is making to adapt the delivery of its core fisheries management programs and services beginning in 2013. This includes:

• Revised requirements for gear tags and tabs, logbooks and other data collection forms, and at-sea observers and electronic monitoring.
• Expanding use of the multi-year approach to the management of fisheries across Canada.
• Any regulatory changes that will be made as a result of these service delivery changes.

How will we inform fishermen and other fishery stakeholders?

We will continue to inform fishermen and their unions and associations over the next months to ensure everyone is aware of all of the service delivery changes by:

• Issuing and web-posting regular Notices to Fish Harvesters.
• Delivering presentations at regularly scheduled meetings with industry across Canada.
• Regularly posting information, such as answers to frequently asked questions on this website.
